A former Henryetta minister resigned Sunday from his post amid allegations of sending sexually-explicit texts to a teenager.
Thirty-six-year-old Joseph Monroe Leal was charged July 1 with two counts of using technology to engage in sexual communication with a minor, after he allegedly sent the texts to a 15-year-old girl. According to reports, the texts allegedly began in the summer of 2009 when she was 14, but weren’t sexually explicit then.
A little more than a week ago, the former pastor was charged with the crimes. He was freed from jail after posting bail.
Monroe had been serving as pastor of the Immanuel Baptist Church of Henryetta. He had also served at two previous churches.
