Two nurses have been charged with second-degree rape after accusations they were carrying on a sexual relationship with one of the inmates emerged.
According to reports, Kristina Knutson, 30, and Debra Harms, 48 were charged Thursday in Cleveland County District Court after an investigation uncovered evidence the two were have a sexual relationship with 33-year-old inmate Craig Kruger while he was at the Joseph Harp Correctional Center in Lexington. The alleged encounters took place at various times throughout 2009 and 2010. Kruger is reportedly serving time for first-degree murder.
In Oklahoma, any case where the victim is under the legal custody or supervision of a state agency, a federal agency, a county, a municipality or a political subdivision and engages in sexual intercourse with a state, federal, county, municipal or political subdivision employee or an employee of a contractor of the state, the federal government, a county, a municipality or a political subdivision that exercises authority over the victim can be considered rape.
Since this situation occurred within a correctional facility and with an inmate, the nurses are facing the rape charges despite the fact that all parties involved were consenting adults.
