The police chief of more than 20 years in Valley Brook has been charged with drug trafficking.
According to reports, 47-year-old Melvin Martin Fisher was arrested about 1:30 a.m. Labor Day while driving on the Turner Turnpike. Officers stopped him because they suspected a drunk driver. During the traffic stop, officers found 20 grams of methamphetamine, an ounce of marijuana, some ecstasy tablets as well as several other types of pills and drug paraphernalia.
Fisher was arraigned last week on two charges of possession of a controlled substance and one charge of unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia. He has been placed on paid administrative leave. Valley Brook’s assistant police chief will serve as the interim police chief.
